Maybe this time.

Okay, since I am starting another "blog" that will require me to be on every night I guess I will add miscellaneous ramblings to this one, and try again to post something regularly. However knowing me that is a long shot and don't expect any frequency to my posts!

Trips to Seattle

Ok, it has been long enough I guess I should make this post. As the title says, it will be on my second trip to Seattle this year. We did make the obligatory stops at El Tapatio and Rice Hill both on the way up and on the way down, however this one will be more about a couple of other things I/we did on this trip.
Let me start by saying that I love waterfalls. One of my favorites is Multnomah Falls about 30 miles east of Portland Oregon. They have a path that climbs from the base to the top that is about a mile long, and goes up about 150' higher than the 620' water fall, then drops back down to the top of the falls. I have climbed it twice before, the first time it took me more than 2 hours to get to the top and then come back down. The second time it took me about an hour and a half to do the same, that time my sister Theresa climbed it with me. This time I wanted to see how quickly I could do it after several months of boot camp 3 days a week. We added a day to the trip so I would have time to make the climb. So on Friday of the trip we got up and got ready and set off to make the climb. My mom and dad set off with me but we all went at different speeds. I made it in 29 minutes 55 seconds and was very happy with my time. It was nice to be the one passing people and encouraging them instead of being the one getting passed. After being up there about 25 minutes I called my dad to see where he was, and he had just crested the top, and was on his way down. I went back and walked the rest of the way down with him, took some pics and went back down. Ok, I don't remember where I was going with this post, but to make a long story short we also stopped in Portland on the way back so I could climb it again on Sunday, and it took 27 minutes plus then. I do have pictures, but will not be posting them at this time.

Trips to Seattle

Ok, I guess now that it is more than 4 months later I will make my next post. I will start off with a brief bit about the January trip and then finish with the May trip. Afognak, one of the native corporations I have shares in, had a shareholder outreach meeting. I went up with my mom and dad. We have a few regular stops, the first is at a Mexican restaurant in Ashland Oregon. It used to be in an old mobile home, but when we went to the old location it was closed. Luckily as we were leaving I saw a sign that said something about having moved. We followed the directions, and after only a couple of missed turns we found the new place. Here are a few pics of our stop there on the way up.

We took these pictures because my sister was supposed to join us, and since she wasn't there we said we would take a bite for her, and these were her bites. The second stop is in Rice Hill Oregon for ice cream. They have some of the best ice cream I have ever had. Then on Saturday we went to the meeting and started home. We made it as far back as Salem Oregon and stayed the night there. The return trip always includes the same 2 stops and this is a picture of me with a small ice cream from the drive in in Rice Hill.
I think I will end this post here, and put in another one with the May trip, I will post it in the morning, it is more involved.

2 months later

Ok, so the post a week thing was a failure. I kinda thought it would be. Anywho, I have another post to make, but not now. This one will be about another mean machine.
I got out my Wii Fit that I got for Christmas. I actually got it 2 weeks ago on my trip to Seattle (see my next post, if I ever make it). Once again my theory that any machine made to make us healthy will first off make us hurt. I thought that, since I have been going to boot camp, I would be ok doing about 30 minutes on the Fit. I was however it seems to have found muscle groups that boot camp has yet to find. It seems that my core muscles are by far the weakest I have, not that I am claiming any of my others are particularly strong. It is amazing to me that a little board that looks just like a small step aerobics step and a cartoon can cause me so much pain. I guess the lesson I should learn isn't that these machines are causing me pain as much as that I am way, way, way, way, way out of shape.

Boot camp

Ok, so I missed a post last week, oh well. This week will be different (obviously evidenced by this post) I promise.
Today I started boot camp at Fit One in Chico. After just one day, I am wondering if I will make it. The class is from 6am to 7am, and I am nothing even close to a morning person. So I started out by not being able to get to sleep last night until about 2:30 in the morning. I probably dozed off and on, but didn't get anything close to good rest, so 5am came way to early. I got up and made it to class on time.
Not sleeping was the least of my problems. The class is an hour of constant go, go, go and today was only the introduction. We did things like push ups, crunches, jumping jacks, squats, wall sits, we walked the perimeter of the basketball court doing lunges, then came the run. Now I hate running, always have and as far as I can tell always will. We only "ran" about .7 miles, and I use quotes because I ran probably less than 1/3 the distance. After the run we did more push ups, crunches, and jumping jacks. Not to mention every time one of us miss counted, or made some other mistake we were "rewarded" with more push ups.
After what I would consider working out constantly for an hour it was all over. Richard Jones gave Jeff Crawford and I a tour of the gym, not in it's self that bad of a thing, but there is a part of the gym that is up stairs, and not just 1 set of stairs, to see the whole thing you have to go up one set of stairs then back down and up another set of stairs and down again. Long story short I could have done without stairs after killing myself for an hour.
Ok, so class is now done so I can go about my day normally right? Wrong, everything from washing my hair to standing up out of a chair, to just carrying products around Radio Shack was very difficult. I didn't hurt all day, I could just feel the muscle fatigue. Now that the class was more than 12 hours ago the pain is settling in, and I am not looking forward to tomorrow. On top of that, I get to do it all again on Wednesday, and then once again on Friday. Then I get to start again on Monday next week, and over and over again for the next 4 weeks, woohoo!
The question now begs to be asked, why in the world would I pay somebody to torture me like this??????

More mean machines!

Ok, so I joined a gym. Actually my parents joined the gym, and I got added so that if only 1 of them is going I can go so they aren't there alone. The gym is an Anytime Fitness one, so anywhere I go if there is one there, I can use it. After just 2 visits, I have decided that any machine created by man with the purpose of getting us healthy is more likely intended to cause much pain! (notice the apparent lack of legs)
